A Letter From Our CEO

Dear Friend of Mission 911,

Mission 911 has evolved and grown over the years since I founded it as a homeless shelter in 2000. Now, our organization has become much more than just a shelter. With a mission to bridge the gap between poverty and stability, Mission 911 has become a beacon of hope for vulnerable individuals and families in our community. Our approach at Mission 911 is unique because it is faith-based and rooted in compassion and love for one’s neighbor. It reflects the community we serve, which values empathy, justice, and human dignity.

As the Founder and CEO of Mission 911, I believe my dedication to the organization is palpable. My unwavering passion for helping those in need has been the driving force behind the success of Mission 911. But, this endeavor cannot be achieved as a lone ranger. I’m very thankful for the board members, staff, volunteers, and supporters of Mission 911 that are making this new vision possible.

My team and I developed the Peace of Mind Case Management Program, the latest addition to Mission 911’s arsenal of services, which provides access to various solutions to help individuals transition toward their goal of self-sufficiency. Mission 911 offers many benefits, including case workers, a clothing closet, “Getting Ahead” classes, utility assistance, and more. With our combined efforts, Mission 911 is set to continue impacting people in our community.

So far in 2023, we have:

• Provided over $120,000 in assistance to a total of 566 households to help with rent, utility, and transportation needs

• Provided over 80 individuals with case management services to work towards their goal of stability and self sufficiency

• Hosted 16 homeless men during Walk to Siloam in March and provided them with encouragement and direction on this 4 day retreat

• Raised over $250,000 towards our capital campaign for renovations on our new building and operating space

Ultimately, it is not just about providing support and services to those in need but about empowering them to find their way toward a life of self-sufficiency and fulfillment. As we embark on this new journey, we would like to invite you to join us to create a more just and compassionate society by extending an invitation to you to participate in our annual fundraising event aimed at raising awareness about the profound impacts of poverty in our community.

By joining us, you will not only deepen your understanding of poverty’s complexities but also contribute to our ongoing efforts. The funds raised will support our programs and initiatives that empower individuals and families to overcome poverty in the Coastal Bend. Your presence and support are instrumental in raising funds, driving community engagement, and building a network of compassionate individuals committed to tackling poverty in our region.

We sincerely hope you can join us at this impactful event. Kindly RSVP by July 24, 2023 via our website at www.ccmission911.org or feel free to contact Lauren Cargill at 361-882-0911 for any further inquiries.

Sincerely,

Tony Reyes, CEO/Founder

POVERTY SIMULATION

Join us for our annual event to educate our community about the labors of living in poverty and what our mission is doing to help.

During a simulation, participants role-play the lives of individuals and families living in poverty, from single parents trying to care for their children to senior citizens trying to maintain their self-sufficiency on social security. The task of each family is to provide food, shelter, and necessities during the simulation while interacting with various community resources staffed by volunteers.

Although it uses “play” money and other props, fictional scenarios, and time limits, the simulation is not a game. This simulation is a tool that enables participants to view poverty from different angles in an experimental setting while empowering volunteers by allowing them an opportunity to interact with leaders from their community.

July 26, 2023* First United Methodist Church
900 S. Shoreline Blvd 6-8 pm
*RSVP By July 24 via text to (361) 208-0559
